Over the past eight (8) years, AGES staff have performed over three hundred (300) projects involving the assessment and remediation of Mercury-affected soil and sediment, ranging from small projects to those including excavation of thousands of tons of affected soil.
Our staff are familiar with the unique sampling requirements associated with Mercury and with the stringent remedial techniques required for successful Mercury remediation. We have completed Mercury remedial projects at industrial facilities, in residential settings, and indoors. Over the past years, AGES staff have developed field applications for the Lumex Mercury Analyzer 915+ to screen samples in the field. The Lumex 915+ Mercury Analyzer with a RP-91C pyrolysis attachment is a portable multifunctional atomic absorption spectrometer designed to determine Mercury content in soil to detection limits as low as 2 ng/m3. We have used the Lumex Mercury Analyzer to determine excavation limits prior to submitting confirmation samples to a laboratory. This has resulted in significant cost-savings by eliminating multiple field mobilizations and costly laboratory samples. One study completed by a client revealed that the use of the Lumex Mercury Analyzer limited excavation activities to one (1) field day and saved the client over 50% in total project costs.
