Specialists in Environmental Remediation, Ecology and Information Management
Applied Geology and Environmental Science is providing project management/oversight, technical support, and data management and analysis for a water quality monitoring project initiated by Trout Unlimited that is currently in place in the southern portion of the 500,000 acre Allegheny National Forest in northwest Pennsylvania.

• monitor HQ-CWF streams with a focus on Allegheny National Forest;
• generate baseline data in watersheds with ongoing conventional oil and gas extraction and new deep shale development;
• identify and document pollution incidents;
• provide data for internal and external consumption;
• support and cooperate with other monitoring initiatives, networks, and projects;
• create environmental education opportunities with local schools and involve local communities.
The monitoring approach expands on TUs Coldwater Conservation Corps Program by adding data loggers and multi-parameter real-time stations in selected ANF watersheds. Loggers are programmed to record temperature, water level, and conductivity at 15 minute intervals (95 observations/day) and can remain on site nearly 6 months. Logger data is downloaded on-site to a laptop computer. Multi-parameter real-time satellite stations, based on the Susquehanna River Basin Commission watershed monitoring model, upload water quality data to the web at 4-hour intervals and can be viewed by project partners and other interested organizations.
AGES designed the monitoring network and is installing and managing data loggers and real-time stations and the data they generate. AGES has partnered with the US Forest Service and Elk County Conservation District to maximize the value of the project.
