Wetlands Assessment for Highway Realignment, Venango County, Pennsylvania

Project Work: AGES Inc. completed an environmental assessment Wetlands Assessment for Highway Realignment, Venango County, Pennsylvaniaas part of a highway construction project in Venango County, Pennsylvania, to determine if The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) jurisdictional wetlands were present at a five (5) acre forested site proposed as a borrow pit adjacent to US 322. The wetland determinations were completed relative to Paragraph 26 of the 1987 USACE Wetland Delineation Manual and most recent regional supplements. All three (3) diagnostic environmental characteristics listed in Paragraph 26 Section b were examined in the field for the determinations: vegetation, soils and hydrology. Specific changes in the supplement for all three (3) criteria were also used. No jursidictional wetlands were found on site. In addition, an examination of adjacent areas for the presence of habitat suitable for the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake (Sistrurus catenatus catenatus) were completed and clearance was then secured from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to excavate the borrow area.
